Register of Companies in Lithuania

The Register of Legal Entities of Lithuania is incorporated in the Centre of Registers of Lithuania which functions under the authority of the Minister of Justice of the state of Lithuania. It is a public entity of limited civil liability and it is owned by the State. The Central Unit of the Centre of Registers is located in Vilnius and it has 11 branch offices and 40 branch office divisions that function throughout the country.

The main activities of the Lithuanian Trade Register consist of establishing new companies in Lithuania and ensuring that the documents submitted comply with the law. Also the institution holds information about existing companies' addresses, registered offices, object of activity, managing board and shareholders and ensures the safekeeping of the information. The Register of Legal entities is obliged by law to provide authenticated copies of documentation kept in its database.

The Company Registrar in Lithuania offers the possibility to search through its database online, on the Centre of Registers official website. The state institution registers sole proprietorships, merchants, cooperative enterprises, societies, economical interest groups, associations, budget institutions, credit unions and so forth.

Upon registering a Lithuanian company the Trade Registry entities informs collaborates with other governmental institutions, as Tax Authorities and so on, in order to ensure that the applicable laws are in order . Within 6 days, the Register provides the approval for the newly formed company, issuing the Certificate of Incorporation, or requests additional information in order for the registration to continue.

The Companies House in Lithuania has the obligation to summarize information of companies and submit it for publication and also plays the role of a mediator in case of insolvency of companies. The decisions of the Register of Legal entities represent the law and are open to appeal.
