The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Greece has a lot of attributions, but is the main institution responsible for company registration. Other attributions include assisting the Government in the fields of commerce, industry, services and general development. The Chamber of Commerce is divided into many departments, each having its specific attributions and role in the development of the institution itself. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry also has an Administrative Committee in charge of organizational supervision and structural development. The Directorate of Industry and Commerce is a division of the institution managing a department of trade, of industry and one of Members Assistance & Services. Other departments like the Directorate of Administrative & Financial Management handle personnel and employment, financial management, procurement etc.

One division of the Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry is represented by the Directorate of Registers. It is divided into the Registry Department, Special Registries Department and the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. The Registry Department has the important task of registering companies and managing the databases of entities information. It is in charge with the management of the Registry and the Directory of Business Names & Designations, as well as recording changes of member companies.

Registering a company implies sending an application along with company documentation. In case the application is accepted the institution issues a registration certificate, and in case the documentation provided is not consistent, additional information may be requested. Also the Register needs to be notified in case of major changes, like replacement of managers, or company status. Also monitoring of financial obligations of member companies and collecting data to member companies is one of the main responsibilities of the Registry Department.
