The Department of Registrar and Official Receiver of Cyprus

The Cyprus Department of Registrar of Companies administers the Register of Companies in Cyprus, partnerships, business names, trade marks, patents and regulates properties of insolvent legal natural persons. The Department's role is to maintain everybody properly informed of the status of the commercial organizations. The institution also plays an important role in the protection of intellectual property in Cyprus and encourages original works in all fields. The Cyprus Trade Register manages the companies section, the bankruptcies and liquidations section and the intellectual and industrial section. The companies section deals with registering companies in Cyprus. For this process an application must be submitted and it should contain details on the trade name, the company members, director board, capital and other. Also this section covers the follow up of companies. Any significant change in the registration data must be brought to the attention of the Cyprus Company Registrar. The institution also controls the registered and in course of registration companies, making sure that everything is according to law. This section of the Department offers advice for entrepreneurs, supports and facilitates commercial transactions.

The bankruptcy and liquidation section administers the property assets of insolvent natural and legal persons. In case of bankruptcy or liquidation, the lawyers assigned to each case handle them in court. The process is straightforward and its duration depends on each case.

The intellectual and industrial property sections handles trade marks, patents, industrial designs and copyrights. Basically the main activities include verifying the uniqueness of specific characteristics of companies and registering all the above.
