Business Start-up Costs in France

1. What is the minimum share capital?

An entrepreneur who wants to set up a business in France, can choose between the formation of a limited liability company or a joint stock company. The first type does not require a minimum share capital higher than one euro, but when it comes to a joint stock corporation, it is necessary to provide a minimum share capital of 37,000 EUR, out of which half must be paid up before registration.

 

2. What are the Company Registration fees? 

 

The fees that need to be paid during the procedure of company registration are not very high. For instance, one must pay up to 300 EUR for publishing a notice of incorporation of the company, depending on the length and the layout of the notice. Another fee of approx. 100 EUR has to be paid to the trade register in the Commercial Court when filing a request for the company’s registration. 3. What are the costs to rent an office space?

The most expensive price per square meter when it comes to renting offices is in Paris. Here, the costs can reach more than 90 EUR per square meter. The average costs differ from region to region in France between 10 and 30 EUR per square meter.

4. What are the costs for a virtual office if the client will not rent a location?

Depending on the service you want the virtual office to fulfill, the costs range from 100 to 200 EUR, containing secretarial service, mail forwarding, fax reception or phone answering. The virtual office is a cheaper option for those who do not want to have a physical office in France or cannot afford one, but need a registered address when incorporating the company.

5. What is the cost of hiring an employee?

Salaries are quite high in France, so an employee might be rather expensive. The average monthly salary is around 3,000 EUR and the social security contribution is deducted from the salary payment.

6. What are the costs of hiring a local accountant?

A local accountant is recommended for a company registered in France, since a specialized person knows best how to deal with the system and how calculate taxes and invoices. Therefore, the costs vary according to the company’s activity and the accountant’s responsibilities, but the price for hiring a local accountant is usually between 200 and 400 EUR.

7. What is the yearly corporate tax?

The standard corporate tax rate that any company in France has to pay yearly is 33.33%, but small-sized businesses and new companies may benefit from a reduced tax.

8. What is the yearly dividend tax?

The annual dividend tax rate for dividends paid to nonresident companies is 25%. There are however exceptions, when the dividends are exempt from tax or benefit from a reduced tax.
