Polish accountants provide specialised advice in financial matters and are also competent for setting up a company in Poland and registering it. There are approximately 6,300 accountants in Poland, with an average age of 57 years old. Polish accountants who belong to the Chamber of Certified Public Accountants can also practise auditing. The Chamber of Certified Public Accountants in Poland is formed of a governing board, a disciplinary representative and a disciplinary court and falls under the authority of the Minister of Finance. The Chamber establishes ethics codes and auditing standards based on the rules of the International Federation of Accountants. As members or the European Union, Polish accountants must respect both national accounting regulations and International Accounting Standards.
Admission
Public accountants in Poland must be trained in taxation, accounting and auditing. Besides, all practicing accountants must keep educating themselves by taking at least 30 hours a year of continuing education courses. Accountants in Poland who become audits must register with the Chamber of Certified Public Accountants. Foreign accountants who want to practise in Poland can obtain a license after passing an exam in commercial and tax law. If they commit any mistakes, Polish accountants can have their license revoked or they might even be imprisoned for up to two years if the irregularity was more serious.
Activities
Polish accountants have a variety of duties. An accountant in Poland deals with bookkeeping, financial and management reporting, generating reports and declarations required by law, offering accountancy advice. In terms of taxes, Polish accountants can represent a client during tax inspections and can identify early any tax risks for the company. Polish accountants also issue monthly tax declarations on behalf of their clients.
